Conference recipes

Hi!

I've been looking forward to this weekend for several reasons:

1. This weekend, all over the world, Mormons (like me and Paul) are listening to a broadcast of our church leaders speaking called General Conference. We celebrate this by having a lazy weekend at home stuffing our faces with food that has way too much butter in it.

2. Food that has wayyyy too much butter in it. I had to buy three boxes of butter just to supply all the food I'm making this weekend. I could put Paula Dean to shame. Recipes below.

3. Cuddling on the couch with Paul while we listen to leaders of our church give us encouragement to get through this life. It is finally fall here in Utah, and the air is getting colder every day. We open all of the windows and let in the crisp air, then cuddle to keep warm. I know, we're weird.

I got this one off of Pinterest. It is the softest, fluffiest cake concoction to ever bless my taste buds.

Breakfast: Cinnamon Roll Cake

Cake:
1 1/2 c milk
2 eggs
1/4 t salt
1 c sugar
4 t baking powder
2 t vanilla
3 c flour
1/2 c melted butter (add this last)

Topping:
1 c softened butter
1 c brown sugar
2 T flour
1 T cinnamon (I added a lot more than this, because I love cinnamon)

Glaze:
(add after baking)
2 c powdered sugar
5 T milk
1 t vanilla

Mix all cake ingredients together, except melted butter. Slowly add melted butter and mix in. Pour into a 9x13 greased pan. Mix together topping, and pour over cake batter. Use a fork to swirl into cake batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 28-36 minutes. Add glaze immediately after baking. Eat while watching the morning session of General Conference.

I altered this recipe a little bit, but this is the original. If you want to add a teaspoon of nutmeg to the cake batter mix, it balances out the sweetness a little bit.

Lunch: Ham and Swiss Sandwiches on steroids
Men love these babies. Seriously. Find me a man who doesn't obsess over these sandwiches. My brothers in law go gaga over them. I got this recipe from my grandmother, though I've seen variations of it on Pinterest. I usually make these only a few times a year: General Conference and the Superbowl. I also made these for Paul on our first date together. That's how I beguiled him into falling madly in love with me. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach!

Ingredients:
1 pkg thinly sliced smoked ham
1 pkg sliced swiss cheese
1 stick of salted butter
2 T regular mustard
2 t Worcestershire sauce
2 T poppy seeds
12 dinner rolls
foil (don't eat the foil)

Soften butter. Stir/whip in mustard, W sauce, and poppy seeds. Split rolls and spread with mixture. Layer in ham and swiss. Wrap in foil and bake at 325 degrees until cheese is melted. Try to avoid getting run over as the men in your house race for the kitchen.

Dinner: Spaghetti
Dessert: Apple Dumplings

My spaghetti recipe is really simple. Brown hamburger meat, add a jar of favorite sauce, pour over cooked noodles. BAM. You look like a professional chef.

This apple dumplings recipe comes from my grandmother, thanks Meme!
Apple Dumplings:

2 cans of 8 crescent rolls each
3 apples, peeled and cut lengthwise
2 sticks of butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 T cinnamon
1 can Sprite soda

Roll one apple slice in each individual crescent roll. Place into 9x13 baking pan. Melt butter, mix with sugar and cinnamon. Spoon mixture over top of dumplings. Pour Sprite over the dumplings. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Hope you have a lovely Conference weekend and that you survive my butter-laden recipes!
